Explaining treatment

Every smile starts with an initial consultation! During your first visit, we will discuss your concerns and review your medical and dental history. We will also give you basic information about the projected length of time in treatment and discuss fees and financial arrangements. You will also learn the reason for treatment, the optimal time for beginning treatment, the expected result when treatment is completed, and the possible outcome if no orthodontic treatment is done.

Your first orthodontic visit will also include:

  • A complete oral exam, with x-rays and photos, to determine whether treatment is necessary
  • A presentation of all your treatment options to help you create a customized treatment plan
  • Discuss all financial information, insurance options, and payment plans

What happens after the initial consultation?

If you are ready to begin orthodontic treatment, your next appointment will be to acquire the remaining initial diagnostic records. Complete diagnostic orthodontic records typically include digital study models and impressions of your teeth as needed to fabricate any custom appliances. This information is used to create a custom treatment plan and to track the progress of your orthodontic care.  We are always happy to update you on your progress throughout treatment. The more you know about your treatment and actively participate in your orthodontic care, the better your results will be.

Scheduling Appointments

We have engineered our schedule to try to better serve you. Longer appointments, particularly the placement of braces or delivery of orthodontic appliances, are usually scheduled during the noon and morning hours. Because many of our patients are in school, after-school appointments are the most desirable. To be fair to all of our patients, we try to provide many of the routine adjust appointments and retainer checks during after-school hours; however, there will be occasions when some school time will have to be missed in order to keep your orthodontic treatment on schedule.

FAQS

  • Our dentist referred us to you, why do I need orthodontics if my teeth are already straight?

Orthodontics not only correct alignment concerns, they also correct underlying bite issues that can affect your long term dental health. Teeth that bite together correctly have less wear over time. Improving the function of your bite can reduce future needs for costly restorative dental work in the future such as fillings and crowns.
